Tax mode · Windows app
Your receipts become a tax estimate, every figure on a date.
Tax mode is the guided tax workflow in the Balaur Data Extractor desktop app. It takes the records you have already captured, sorts income and expenses, works through deductions for your occupation and ends with an estimated refund or amount owing that you or your accountant confirm.
Free trial: 5 pages or 1 day, whichever comes first · no card
What it does
Tax mode at a glance
A guided workflow
Step by step from your records to a tax figure, with an in-app Tax Guide that explains each step as you go.
Deductions for your occupation
Around 45 occupation profiles, from tradies and rideshare drivers to nurses and freelancers, so each expense is judged against the work you actually do.
Tax Calendar
Every income and expense item sits on its date. Bring in CSV, Excel or .balaur files and they land on the calendar beside what is already there, with repeats flagged before anything is added twice.
Depreciation
Diminishing value and prime cost methods, plus instant asset write-off, worked out for the assets you buy for the business.
Crypto gains
Capital gains on crypto disposals worked out first in, first out, with stablecoins recognised.
Multi-currency
Income and expenses in other currencies are recorded alongside your home currency.
Accountant-ready workpapers
Dated workpapers with an audit trail, so your accountant can see where every number came from.
Built for accountants too
A client list keeps each client's records separate, so a practice can prepare workpapers for many clients.
Odometer readings
The Results Hub works out odometer readings from a kilometre column, and Tax mode brings them into the report.
How it works
Four steps.
Capture
Snap receipts on the Android app or read scans, PDFs and emailed bills on the PC.
Check
Every reading is shown for review in the Results Hub and Data Tools before it counts.
Prepare
Open Tax mode, pick your country and occupation, and let the workflow sort and qualify each item.
Confirm
Review the estimate and workpapers, then hand them to your accountant or use them for your own return.
Good to know
- Tax figures are estimates. Tax mode prepares workpapers; it does not lodge a return, and nothing is sent anywhere without you.
- Return lines are mapped for Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom. New Zealand, Canada and Ireland are included as starting points you can edit.
- Tax mode is part of the Windows desktop app. The Android app captures documents and sends them to the desktop.
A person always has the final say: every reading is shown for review, and readings that look off are flagged.
